(Our scene begins at a Wrestleworld public event for the residents of the Neutral Territories. Fans are all throughout the conference center to meet and greet their favorite Wrestleworld Clients. Scanning through the building, we see older fans participating in varying activities, from Question and Answer sessions, to photo ops, to autograph signings, to merch stands. As all of the adults are spread out at all of these different stations, there’s a small corner for the kids, and it’s all being led by Teddy Mac. Circling around several tables worth of kids, Teddy is assisting the youths in a group pumpkin carving with several other supervisors. Wanting to give a display for all of them, he picks up a pumpkin himself and hollows it out before cutting out the face. As he cuts eyes into one of the pumpkins, the kids look on in awe.)
Teddy Mac: Carve out two triangles and there you go, you’ve got your eyes! After that there’s the smile, which you can make all jagged if you want to get reaaaall scary!
Child #1: Cool!
Child #2: Who is that, Teddy?
Teddy Mac: Who is what...OH!
(Teddy Mac turns his attention to the door behind him as a full camera crew walks through the room with a member of the Wrestleworld announce team a step ahead.)
Teddy Mac: Hey kids, just in time for Halloween -- IT’S JACK SKELLINGTON!
Jack Develin: The name is Jack DEVELIN and I’m with Wrestleworld Media. I don’t do costumes, thank you very much. You seem to have more than enough Halloween spirit for the both of us with the festivities you’re leading right here. You enjoying yourself?
Teddy Mac: Absolutely. While I’m not going to be seeing my kids for Halloween night this time around, getting to see the smiling faces and bright eyes of these little kids is a great mood boost. It’s a magical time being at that age. Everything is so exciting! And let me tell you, when I walked into this room it was like they were hanging out with the superheroes they dressed up as. Getting to influence the youth the way the wrestling legends before me did for myself is something that humbles me greatly, and getting to be up close and personal with the fans that look up to me, that count on me, it makes it all worth it. It fuels me. It gives me pride in being a World Tag Team Champion.
Jack Develin: Well that brings me to why I’m here, Teddy. You and Jungle Jaguar are of course STILL Los Campeonatos de Parejas, having gotten past the challenge Drake and Jones put in front of you at By The Sword. How does it feel to have that weight off your shoulders, knowing that there’s no more debate about your reign?
Teddy Mac: The debate never ends, Jack. I’ve learned as time goes on that the label of being “undisputed” champion is impossible. Even if you are the very best in the game, you can bet your bottom dollar that the people below you are going to dispute it until they get a chance to be in your shoes. You see, Jag and I are actively in a competition, a competition where we’re leading the way. We’re the Patriots, the Lakers, the Dodgers….we are the top team! And much like those hard working athletes, with their well earned accolades and dedication, they still get held with plenty of scrutiny. Lebron’s latest “Mickey Mouse ring” is on the same level as Drake and Jones’ “comedy champions” narrative. You can climb through the ranks, win clean as a whistle, and they’ll still dirty up what you’ve done. Out of envy, out of hatred, out of fighting spirit, what have you. In a division full of peers who are just as hungry and have been chasing the same goals that we caught up too, they aren’t just going to accept that we’re in first place. They’re going to do everything possible to get back in the arena with us and snatch that spot. They’re going to do everything possible to pull us back so they may get ahead, including cast doubt and start a conversation in their favor. There’s always going to be people out there questioning our status as champions, saying that they deserve it over us, that we’re a fluke, or that THIS next match is going to be the one where we fall. I’ve mentally prepared myself for the fact that Drake and Jones isn’t just the one voice we needed to shut up to get our respect. They are going to go down as the first of many. You don’t get a reputation and leave it at that, you must maintain, you must grow it -- and so I welcome everyone who wants to come out and test it. We didn’t shut up our critics with the Drake and Jones match, we didn’t dead the disputes of us being the best in the division, but we did establish that The Bear and Jag Connection has come equipped to deal with whoever is going to come out and question us. We were called a joke reign, but a serious ass whooping was laid out in Japan!
Supervisor: LANGUAGE, TED!
Child #3: I’ll tell my mom what you said!
Teddy Mac: Yikes! My bad! To make it more child friendly…..even if people want to have it set in their minds they can outdo us, they at least know that the task of proving that is going to take everything they have. Put yourselves ahead of us, sure. Don’t think it won’t be the race of your life, however. That goes to my friend Nobi, too. I know he’s looking to catch up to Jag and I on the field. Hopefully he doesn’t employ any underhanded tactics like he did with April and Hana, though.
Jack Develin: That brings me to my next question, actually. You will have to face your friend Nobi with his Wrestleworld partner Reno Dumont in just a matter of weeks. He knows you inside out and it has the potential to be a greater contest than what you went through with Drake and Jones. But before you face him, you must go up against Sweet Melody -- a team that the internet wrestling community is arguing should be the TRUE number one contenders given Nobi’s incident with his foot on the ropes. They have the chance to show that statement is right, so tell me Ted, how do you and Jag plan on keeping a third team from “entering the race” along with keeping momentum strong heading into your second defense.
Teddy Mac: Questions like these feel like a daily part of my routine, as regular as brushing my teeth or hitting the gym. I get asked it every day and the answer is always the same. Jag and I are going to win this match the same way we’ve won all of our matches up to this point: rolling up our sleeves and getting to work in that squared circle. You’re right, Sweet Melody have plenty of talk surrounding them, and they themselves probably feel like they should be getting a tag title shot. Here’s their in, and they have a chance to capture it seeing as they're a great team….but, I’ll go out on a limb and say that Jag and I are greater. That’s no diss to them, that’s giving objective props to what me and Jaguar are doing in this division. I’m the master of self put downs, I wouldn’t be speaking of myself in this way if I wasn’t one hundred percent confident in my ability. Jag and I, we live and breathe this team. This team is everything to us, it’s the most meaningful thing we’ve done in this sport. Years of grinding, years of passion for the craft, and years of wanting to be something great have come together for both of us as our efforts have culminated in this right here: The Bear and Jag Connection. We aren’t just partners, we aren’t a mentor/trainee pairing like April and Hana, we’re two parts of a whole. We complete our package seamlessly, without even trying. When we’re in the ring together, we do not lose. There is no weakness. There isn’t even a consideration of failure. With an out of the blue tag match where we barely even knew each other or had a moment to prepare, we dominated like a multi-year veteran tandem, and with each passing month we’ve been reinforcing our chemistry with training, learning from each other, becoming brother’s in arms. When I get in that ring I’m willing to go to war with my partner. I’ll put myself on the line for my friend. And he’d do the same. We’re two equals who make something bigger than ourselves when we get into that ring and this wave we’re on can not stop getting larger. Hana and April will make us sweat, they’ll catch up behind us, but we’ve reached the point where we’ll never not have that something extra to put us ahead. We’re old souls as a team, we have a mission that must be accomplished and with all due respect, we’ve seen more and have more years of experience than Hana, and won’t stab each other in the back when things get hard like April did to previous partner Diantha. We're built for when things get hard. Sweet Melody will be a rough go, but we won't break. Point is, they’ll have their day in the sun eventually, but for now, much like Maverick in Hana’s DMs, their shot is going to be blocked with efficiency.
Jack Develin: Uhhh….got it.
(Teddy Mac turns back to the kids and smiles.)
Teddy Mac: Now let’s get back to carving, huh! Say goodbye to Jack Skellington, he’s got to go back to the underworld!
Jack Develin: WILL YOU STOP!?
(The kids continue to jeer Develin as he walks off while the screen fades to black.)
