| He’s really done it this time, has he not?
Fans of Wrestleworld have been asking since the debut of Colt Montoya back in March. They’ve been wondering what’s going to happen when the 6’5”, 235lb Texan goes toe to toe with the elite wrestlers in the company. Most of Wrestleworld had no idea this man even existed before signing on the dotted line at Badlands. In the company of Gods and Royalty, Montoya stood on different ground. An immediate impact in his debut against Raoul and Alice Gamer caught the eye of the audience, wondering who the Last Breathing Outlaw really was.
Whether he was downing a fan’s beer at ringside, rearranging the faces of Wraith, Alyssa Grace, Aoi Akuma, or countless others with his vicious straight kicks, one thing always remained. Just when would Colt Montoya meet his match?
Following his victory over Jimmy Johnson, the two shook hands out of sportsmanship, but he wasn’t satisfied. Montoya even took to social media, asking the world where his competition was. His dominant performances in each fight proved to many, unfortunately, the brass in Wrestleworld didn’t see the same thing. In any other time, a rugged beast of a human being would have no issues finding a fight. In 2020 though, it felt like a struggle to find adequate challengers. That soon came to an end, however.
DOMINION - May 27, 2020 Colt Montoya vs. Ozymandias vs. Maggall
Now, isn’t that a sight for sore eyes?
A straight up wrestling match wouldn’t be enough, no. Under Outlaw Rules, this is a fight. Look at it like three malicious beasts battling inside of the colosseum.
Ozymandias, the Nordic Nightmare himself. A larger than life warrior with no understanding of stopping a fight. Whether it’s to the death, or until he is satisfied, the man is a complete threat. There’s so much of a mystery to that man, and like Montoya, he hasn’t been tested inside of a Wrestleworld ring. He lays waste to his opposition, wanting nothing more than complete destruction.
Then comes Maggall, the dominant brute of the Underworld. His actions recently against the likes of Hana Nakajima caught the ire of many in the locker room. The biggest of the warriors in this match, at 6’6” and 319lbs, Maggall is all about destroying what’s in his path. The man is the true definition of a human wrecking ball. His path, to his detriment, isn’t DOMINION. He has a busy night ahead of him at Kingdom Come. With the direction of Claudia Michaels at the helm of the Underworld, it comes at no surprise that the focus is on protecting her investment, and squash the motivations of Jaywalker rather than this simple triple threat match.
Simple? Perhaps in their eyes, for Colt Montoya, it’s anything but. Ever since he was a child, Colt’s ambitions were clear, to rid those close to him of threats. There’s always a threat. Once Colt signed to Wrestleworld, he entered the unknown. A company dominated by threats, smoking and drinking their way through high society. These animals didn’t see Colt Montoya as a target, to which Colt didn’t respond to them, like two dominant predators in the serengeti.
Even as an Underworld member attacked him, it still remained under the radar. Understanding that in a fight, you will get punched and kicked, Colt let it slide. Wraith wasn’t the threat. It took one thing to change his entire mindset on the company. The day Lillie Saint was signed.
It was history repeating itself.
Longhorn Elementary School Sweetwater, TX - 2004
“Leave him alone!”
A young boy hits the brick wall with high intensity, crumpling to the ground. No six year old should ever be thrown with such force, and Lillie knew that. Her friend was in pain. She knelt by him, throwing her hand up, trying to wave off a group of 5 nine year olds who were looking to prove their territorial dominance. Outmatched by their size and age, Lillie stood up, clenching her fists.
“Look at that, she wants to fight.”
Not to be disregarded, Lillie swings at the biggest of the bullies, punching him square in the face. The initial shock from the other bullies is very temporary though, as they grab onto her, lifting her from the ground.
“Five of you, you’re sooooo tough.”
Even in the position she’s in, Lillie has a lot of fire in her. She’s pushed into the wall, as the biggest of the bullies steps in. His face, reddened from the punch, snarls at the little gal who gave him that mark.
“Why did you hit me? We can hit much harder than that!”
Struggling to get free from the grip of the bullies, Lillie glares at the lead bully in defiance. She wants to hit him again, so badly.
“Oh yeah?! So can I! Come on!”
The bullies laugh at her, while pinning her against the wall. Unphased by her defiance, the lead bully brings his fist back, and Lillie starts laughing. Unsure of how to react to that, the bully grabs her by the neck.
“What’s so funny?”
She simply continues laughing, angering the bully to swing his fist back again, only to be taken down from his side. She knew Colt was coming, it was only a matter of time.
A melee breaks out between Colt and the lead bully, rolling on the ground, exchanging punches. Colt may be bigger than Lillie, but still lacked the power of the other bullies as they jumped in. Dogpiled by the opposition, Colt can’t do much to get free from them, but swings for the fences any way he can.
Lillie jumps onto the back of one of the bullies, grabbing him around his neck to stop him. What a little monster!
“She bit me!!”
Another bully attempts to pull Lillie off while Colt lands a few wild punches on the surrounding bullies. The lead bully finds his way out of the line of fire from Colt, and throws Lillie off of the bully’s back, sending her to the ground.
Enraged by what he saw, Colt headbutts one of the bullies before charging the lead bully, sending him right into the brick wall. He unloads with a flurry of wild rights and lefts. The other bullies swarm Colt, only for him to turn around with a bloody face, and a death glare at them.
“We’ll get you another time!”
The bullies scatter, leaving the lead bully to lean on the wall, motionless. Colt kneels down, reaching for his backpack, and pulls out a baseball glove and baseball. He turns back to the jerk, glaring at him.
“Attacking my sister? You did that?”
Putting the baseball glove on, Colt crouches down, facing the bully. He shoves the baseball in his face.
“Look at this, because it’s going through your head.”
Succumbing to his temper, Colt pulls his hand back and looks at the baseball. Seeing as he’s in his third year of Little League as a starting pitcher, Colt has full confidence in his aim. He wipes the blood from his face with the glove, before standing a mere four feet away from the injured bully. Moving himself into a position where he would throw his most accurate fastball, he winds up. As soon as his arm goes back, his arm is yanked down by Lillie.
“I had them beat!”
The baseball falls to the ground, rolling towards the parking lot. Seeing the opportunity, the lead bully scrambles to his feet. He runs away from Colt and Lillie, who stare each other down.
“Sure you did.”
Knowing his place as a brother, it isn’t worth arguing with her. That argument would go on days, weeks, possibly years to come. Colt simply laughs to himself, picking up Lillie’s bag, and handing it to her.
The two slowly begin walking towards the trail to their home.
“What are you going to tell Mom?”
They walk further in the distance, with Lille picking some of the rocks off of Colt’s shirt from the fight.
“I’m sure she already knows.”
The two laugh, walking into the woods.
Those were wonderful times. More often than not, it was the fights started by Lillie that would lead to Colt throwing the punches. Then, she learned to fight, and didn’t need Colt so much any more. The mentality though, it never changed. His heart has always remained firm on protecting his family
Which leads us to DOMINION.
In order for Colt Montoya to even have a chance to silence the bullies and threats in Wrestleworld, he needs to be able to fight them. It seems the company has a pretty strict non-event fighting policy. In his contract, he is specifically told that he cannot approach, attack, or even speak with other talent unless given the okay by the bosses.
This is why it’s a must-win situation for Colt, a loss will set him back further than ever before. To defeat Maggall and Ozymandias, while wonderful as an accomplishment, is a simple piece of a larger mission. How does one defeat these near indestructible forces? This is where doing some homework comes into play. Time to study hard, oh so hard.
Rofflestomp Ranch - Wrestling Ring Wrestleworld - Present Day
With a beer bottle, and ashtray beside him, Colt Montoya lays in the middle of the ring. All he can think about is this upcoming match. His eyes follow the blades of the industrial fan inside of the pole barn. Such focus on the blades, it’s impossible to keep focus.
What is there to even say about his opponents that haven’t already been established? For all of their strengths, they have few weaknesses.
“I reckon it’s time to accept that these are two big bastards, ready for a fight, ain’t it?”
The rapid fire spinning of the fan blades nearly hypnotizes him. His eyes are slowly closing. Come on you big bastard, wake up!
“Almost made me stop smoking there..So anyways, where was I? Right..”
He takes a long swig of his beer, and grabs his cigarette, pointing it up at the fan. It’s too far away to make any impact, but the idea is always entertaining.
“If I’m going to figure out how to beat these bad bastards, I need another beer.”
He lays back down in the middle of the ring, until a bottle is put beside him.
“You really are a lazy fucker, aren’t you?”
He reaches weakly at the beer bottle, showing the embodiment of his laziness.
“I can’t help it. I’m at a loss here. On one hand, I’m finally facing someone who isn’t shit, and now I’m facing two of them! It’s pretty awesome, let me tell you.”
His friendly visitor, and bitter sister, Lillie Saint sits down on the mat.
“When in the hell did you get a wrestling ring?”
“I needed an office, and desks are for bitches.”
Colt reaches over for the beer, but Lillie takes it instead. She takes a swig, and looks at him.
“I know you feel really good about this match. Finally, the great Colt Montoya gets a chance to prove he’s more than a comedy act. Finally, the iconic Colt Montoya faces an actual test. It sounds pretty cool.”
Lillie pretends to be sincere, but Colt sees right through it, glaring at her.
“Full of jokes today, I see. Look, I’m racking my brain here, trying to figure out some weaknesses Maggall and Ozymandias have. It just isn’t popping.”
Seeing the opportunity, Lillie jumps up, and hits the ropes. She returns with a huge senton splash onto the prone Colt, who sits up, holding his chest.
“Come on, you know how cool it would have been if we had one of these growing up!?”
She laughs as Colt sits up, getting his wind back. It hit him like a ton of bricks, all 120 something pounds of bricks.
“Eureka!”
Colt slowly gets to his feet, putting the cigarette in his mouth. He circles the ring with Lillie, wanting to fight.
“You’re going to do this while smoking? That’s a new one.”
“No, seriously, let’s do this.”
Colt immediately swings at Lillie, who ducks the punch. She charges the ropes, looking for a running dropkick. Colt quickly evades with a one handed cartwheel, and catches Lillie with a spinning leg sweep. Lillie hits the mat hard, landing on the ashtray.
She throws the ashtray at Colt, and charges in for a clothesline. Again, he catches her off guard with a front roll, and rolls backwards into a heel hook, sending her back to the canvas. He releases the hold quickly.
“There it is, right there.”
“What? Where did you get that from?”
“Okay, Maggall is a huge dude, right? He’s taller than me, and he weighs much more than I do. So, in order for me to beat him, I’m going to have to be faster than him. I can do the quick rolls, fancy shit like that. I’d have him on the mat, laying in a grapevine. He’d have no idea what to do in that situation.”
“Maybe lift his leg a little, and pull you about twenty feet?”
“Okay, how about this? He goes to powerbomb me like he did to Nakajima, but pull some lucha shit, and flip him around.”
Lillie cocks her head out of confusion.
“Colton, you’re about 240lbs, you’re two sizes away from fat. You think you can fly around like that?”
Colt raises his finger, having another point somehow.
“That’s the thing, he’s big. I’m not as big as him, he’s going to get blown up five minutes into the match, and then I can move in for the kill. A little bit of punches, a little bit of kicks, maybe even a..wait for it...wait for it..”
She’s waiting..
“The legendary UFO! Lynchburg Lemonade, remember? I haven’t done it in years!”
“Probably a reason for that.”
“Did you not see me roll around and do those cool things? I can do that to Maggall!”
“You flopped around like a fish, Colton, I felt sorry for you.”
A stern look from Colt simply leads Lillie to shrug her shoulders, smiling.
“Fucking jokes, yeah. Fine, do you have any ideas, oh fucking genius?”
Lillie thinks it over.
“You do realize you’re one of the toughest guys in the world, right? I don’t say that as your sister, but as someone who has seen you go through Hell, and smile about it. If Maggall powerbombs you, and I know you, you’ll kick out. If he throws you from the rafters, you’re going to get up. I have NO idea how you do it, but you always seem to get up. Jay Jones pretty much left you for dead at King of the World. Guess what? You got up! Your face was smashed into the floor so hard that you couldn’t see for almost an hour, but you got up. I’m sorry to be the one to say this, brother, but you are not a luchador.”
Colt looks at her, thinking about what she’s saying. It makes sense on paper, he is relatively tough.
“This Ozymandias guy. He's a badass. He’s a hard hitting guy who has an ambition to run the table. He doesn’t want to lose, are you going to flip around him too? Or are you going toe to toe with him, and kick his ass?”
Finishing off his cigarette, he picks up the overturned ashtray and extinguishes the cigarette in there. Now, feeling the motivation, he’s ready.
“You’re right. In all this worry about Maggall, I forgot how tough Ozymandias is. He’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. He wants to fight, and he wants to fight often. He and I, I guess we’re a lot alike. He wants to make a statement, for the greater good of his own. I want to make a statement, for my greater good. I need to rid this business of the Underworld, truly. They’re a poison.”
The moment the Underworld were mentioned, the smile on Lillie’s face fades. Something became very real to her. Her eyes lower to the mat, with an occasional glance back up at Colt. Something’s been bothering her for a few weeks. Ever since King of the World, Colt Montoya hasn’t been the same man. He no longer smiles. He sends out weird tweets, and goes some time without even a simple phone call to her.
“Colton..”
“I want to take that American Dream Championship, and shove it up all of their asses. I don’t even want the fucking belt, I want to prove a point that people like that don’t even deserve to be in this business.”
“Colton…”
“Maggall is the start. I beat him, I make a statement, that nobody is going to push this Texan around. I’m going to make sure when I pin that bastard down for the three, that I’m looking right at the balcony. Right into the eyes of the beast themselves.”
“Colton…..”
Fired up, Colt feels better about himself. He looks over at Lillie.
“I know..”
“Damn right, we take it right to them. We burn the fucking castle down.”
“Colton..I know.”
The silence fills the ring. Colt glances down at the mat, then back at Lillie.
“Do you?”
Lillie looks down at the mat as well, in the exact same spot where he looked. She slowly nods.
“...You’re with them.”
Pretty heavy allegation there from his little sister. In a state of shock, Colt goes to move in to talk to her. She keeps her distance.
“I always knew.. The golden flask, this ‘home’. You had to make a deal with them.. I understand that now. Just, I don’t want you to be The Professional, Maggall, or the Corleones. Puppets of Claudia, I don’t want you to be any of those things.”
Feeling like he’s back into a corner, Colt can’t find the words.
“Just do me a favor, will ya? When you go and start attacking those people who haven’t done a single thing to hurt you, remember that you used to be one of them. You used to be..”
“Used to be what? Lillie? A guy who couldn’t get a match to save my life in this company? A guy who has a shoulder that is only going to be good for a few more months? A guy who has to constantly change his style up in order to stay ahead of his opponents? I’m on borrowed time, Lillie.”
“No..You used to be so much more than that. Now, you’re heading into a match with two guys who could very well end your career. Where’s that guy who stood up for me, and fought five guys? Where’s that guy who would scare off my dates with even a simple glare? Where’s the guy who made me laugh, cry, and would call me every weekend just to make sure I was staying ahead in school? Where’s my brother?”
“Lil, I..”
“Save it. We know what’s going to happen. You’re going to help Maggall, or he’s going to ‘magically’ not attack you. You can fool the world, but you can’t fool me, Colton.”
Looking back at the mat, Colt tries to tell her the truth. She has no interest in hearing his words, picking up the beer bottle.
“I never thought I’d say this, but Ozymandias really should knock some sense into you. At least he didn’t take a buyout.”
“A buyout?”
Colt grabs the beer bottle from Lillie, staring her down.
“A fucking buyout? Do you even realize what’s at stake here? If I beat Ozymandias AND Maggall, guess what? Maybe Jaywalker won’t see a town drunk who can’t get the job done. Maybe I won’t get the throwaway matches. MAAAAAYBE I won’t be a complete joke in the eyes of the people here. I’m trying my best, with what I have, to be the best..”
“Oh the best.. The best at what, exactly?”
“EVERYTHING! I am trying my absolute best to be the best competitor, the star that shines the brightest. I’m trying my best to be the best professional wrestler on the planet. I’m trying my best to be the best talker, the best athlete, the best fighter, the best..brother.”
The silence fills the room again. Colt’s temper gets the best of him, however, as he throws the beer bottle at the wall. Shattering into pieces, the bottle crashes to the floor, while beer streams down down the floor.
“You know what I’m getting for this? Do you?! Maggall, Ozymandias, two of the toughest fuckers in the entire world. In every conversation where the two are brought up, even for the match, my name hasn’t been brought up ONCE!”
He slaps his bad shoulder several times in anger.
“Instead, I go in there with this Goddamn thing. I go in at less than one hundred percent, and why? Because I DON’T quit. I DON’T stop! You want to know the truth about what the real deal is with the Devione family? Do you?!”
Not even ready for a response, Lillie shakes her head, as a tear rolls down. She’s watching her brother crumble before her eyes. All this frustration he’s dealing with, yet he would even talk to that family.
“Stop for a second, and get this through your skull, I have NOTHING to do with the Underworld. Nothing to do with them. I just.. Have to win this match, Lil.”
After the rant finishes up, Colt sits down in the middle of the ring. He rests his hand against his forehead. He knows that his heart is in the right place. Being accused of being an associate of a vile group sent him off the cliff. It’s so hard to set a proper example for his loved ones, and be successful at the same time. He needs to win against these two, to even have a remote chance of continue his momentum.
Lillie looks at what’s left of Colt, walking towards him, and rests her hand on his shoulder.
“If you retire tomorrow, I will still be your sister. If you lose to Maggall and Ozymandias, I will still be your sister. If I find out you lied to me, and you go full asshole and turn your back on innocent people..I’m sorry, I won’t be there. You’re supposed to be the best of them, with the big heart, and the fight to match up to it. I just can’t be there for you, if that’s the road you take, I’m sorry Colton.”
Lillie takes her hand off of him, and turns her back to him before exiting the ring. She walks towards the exit of the barn, and looks back at the frustrated Colt Montoya. Unable to even see him for the brother he was, but the man he’s becoming, she exits the barn.
Alone, Colt sits on the mat, struggling to convince himself that he is ready to take on those two. He’s not strong enough to match the power of Maggall, he’s not experienced enough to withstand the tricks of Ozymandias. He’s fooling himself if he thinks that either one of them will hesitate to exploit those tricks against him.
There is one thing that he has. One thing that will give him a remote chance in the match against them. It isn’t the speed, that’s for sure. It isn’t the weapons that he can use during the match. It isn’t even the silly belief that he is the best WRESTLER in the match. That won’t work. The only thing that he has left, is the thing that made him special to begin with. It was there all along, and he never fully realized it until this moment.
Colt Montoya has the heart, even if he has a funny way of showing it at times. He has the fight, the grit, and the absolute refusal to accept defeat. If you combine all those aspects from the competitors in this match, it could very well be a showstealing night at DOMINION, the coming out party for one of these men. Ozymandias wants the win, Maggall wants to prove a point, Colt Montoya needs to win this match, whatever it takes. | |
