| Silence was all Vic Trainor needed to start the day. He didn’t need the blaring of the car horns in the city, or the sound of his trashy neighbors arguing in the morning. He was glad that he could land a territory of his own where he could peacefully practice the sport that he teaches proudly again to the Wolf Pack of the Wrestleworld Camp. These are six students that he looked at with pride. Six students who have had losses in their lives one way or another but decided to take the path of a warrior and take control. Vic Trainor is pleased to have them here but it’s no more than them being happy to follow him in this journey. Who can refuse a decent life for free, after all? Who would deny a life where you could train every day to make yourself a stronger, faster hunter when on the field not because you’re someone’s soldier, but because you want to be unstoppable on your own?Sergio Martin: Mr. Trainor?Vic Trainor was enjoying his meal of a Rack of Lamb when his youngest student Sergio partially opened the door from the common area to the dining hall. Vic Trainor: What is it, Sergio?Sergio sits on the chair across Vic Trainor.Sergio Martin: The pack was just wondering what time training starts today. We noticed you didn’t put one in the group chat. Tyler was pretty bummed.Vic Trainor: There’s no session today. I’ll need the gym to myself. Sergio Martin: Cool cool. You must be looking forward to your match against Arata Asakura. Vic Trainor: For a while now. I was worried that Sarge might be getting all of the attention. He is an excellent fighter with the truest potential but I often see him hold back because teaching a lesson is more important to him than winning. It’s admirable, and most of the time his message does get across, but there are times when you need to drill the message into people’s heads for them to see the bigger picture. Some men cannot learn anything unless they experience sorrow and pain from the experience. That kind of conditioning might be seen as torture but it is how you separate the weak from the strong. Sergio Martin: And that’s what you will do with Arata, right? Guy is probably shitting his pants right now.Vic Trainor leans back. He finished his meal with a clean plate of bones and garnish. He takes a drink of water. Vic Trainor: Sergio, you’re the youngest member of the pack, and your brothers and sisters out there have as much respect for you as you have for them. But do you remember the rules of the Wolf Pack by heart?Sergio Martin: Of course… Number one is act on your instincts. Second rule is… No respect for those overtaken by fear. Vic Trainor: Indeed. There’s just no place for doubts and second-guessing when you are on that battlefield. You have the sense of sight… the sense of touch… the sense of hearing. Use them. You must observe the situation, make a decision and act on it the way you were taught. There’s much worse things to fear than a measly opponent paddling and galloping so desperately to pin you for the three count and all you have to do is to ensure that doesn’t happen. They can’t pin you to the ground if they’re worried that their leg will be snapped in half. They can’t pin you to the ground if they feel like their well-being is threatened. Now with that, tell me what the third rule is.Sergio Martin: Third rule is… The worst thing that you can do… is underestimate the enemy.Vic Trainor: And just as you shouldn’t be overtaken by fear, you should never let your guard down even when you know that your opponent is weak. Do not underestimate the spark of hope in an underdog, or the adrenaline from a desperate person who has everything to lose if they don’t take you down. I know that Arata Asakura is in the minor league at best, and that he will be easy to step on, but I know for a fact that he will not rest so easily because of the pride that he is protecting. He is the King of the World after all. The survivor. The one beloved by many no matter what he did. He is on his subjects’ shoulders and he will not stop screaming about his accomplishments on twitter until you acknowledge that he is the best. And that’s the difference. His opponents will assume that without asking. They will fear him for who he is and what he’s done, and not realize that he will be strapped off of those in the ring. What will a person like him do if he comes across an opponent that does not see him as a King? How will someone that is so sure to be the top of this division, hold himself against an authority figure that he cannot defeat? I think it’s easy to see that I am not Daniels, and I am most certainly not Pendragon. I don’t recite proverbs or give important life lessons while wiping my ass in the bathroom. I am not the type to go to a nature walk in the rain forest and make it about something. I am a cutthroat, merciless individual who will not care about who you are and what you stand for. This is the practice that I’ve lived by, which I’ve taught all of my students. Sergio always thought that joining the Wolf Pack was a way to look impressive as he has seen from Taylor, Tyler, Roy and the others. They always looked so unstoppable and feared. But this wasn’t just an appearance to have a badass reputation along with your name or a way to get girls to flirt with and to date. This was a way of life that chooses to win no matter what needs to be done. | |
