Have you ever read a promo or faced someone whose promos got under your skin?

As easy as it may be to not take anything personal in e-feds, I think we've all at one point or another had a match with somebody who's made a promo or consistently made promos that have gotten under our skin in some way. Maybe they just said the right thing to strike a chord with you. It can either be something that got under your skin in or out of kayfabe, whether it was them just being a good heel or being an actual asshole.

The only time that's ever happened to me was when drama was present outside of the promo. I get the occasional tingle of "that son of a bitch got me" every now and again, but I usually say that through a smile. it does more to fuel me than disparage me when someone hits home with a character of mine because I get to react through them.

There's nothing more humbling to me than catching someone paying attention. Knowing someone reads my words to a point that they know how to cut deep in character fills me with a strange inwardly sweaty and nauseated tinge of pride and embarrassment, because it's easy to forget that there are like 100 people that can see what I'm writing. Some may even enjoy or anticipate my promo work even when I'm not in a match with them, and there's something equal parts humbling, humiliating, obtrusive, and endearing to me about that.

Plus, obviously, I don't put much of my real self out there to be scrutinized.

I've only ever been bothered by promos when there have been blatant out of character shots. I remember one specific instance a few years ago where someone said something particularly snide (I forget what exactly, this was around late 2015 I think?) and I made a point of bringing it up to the person in charge. They ended up getting away with it because it was "vague" and "could mean anything" knowing full well what they meant and they were just protecting their friend. That really rubbed me the wrong way for a long while.

Norman Hellion's promos used to annoy the shit out of me just because of how much better than mine they were.

I don't take what someone says in person because it's in character, so I don't think so. But I remember when I faced such a guy whose almost every promo was a sex monologue. Every second word was about dick or fucking someone. And it is not like that insulted me, but it annoyed me, because there was no plot and nothing, and personally, I think that writing about nothing is not creative and pointless.

It's hard to point out just one promo from them since they're both two of the best I've encountered in E-Feds, but Jay and Candle have both consistently made promos that have definitely pissed me off and motivated me to at least attempt to hit them back twice as hard in my own way.

I've recently started working with a guy across a few feds by the name of "Jacob Knight"-the guy can cut some pretty incredible stuff and the way that he words it, it can slip under your skin in a way that it causes you a delayed "GOD DAMN IT!!" kind of moment.

In the Royalty Wrestling League, he pissed off one of my guys bad enough that my guy actually dented the world title there by punching it into Knight's face just to try and shut him up!

So yeah, technically this counts... right Drake?

Plenty.

One I won't forget is a man who had an ego OOC and IC, takes OOC potshots. (I'll never forget he used this character to talk for another character who doesn't speak. Used it to take OOC shots at me and I fired back at that character which cost me the biggest win of Maverick's career.)

I've never had an RP get under my skin, though I did have one guy try by taking OOC shots at me in his RP. It was such petty, unimaginative trash that I found it more funny than anything else and it cost him the match either way because it was a grievous breach of the fourth wall.

Taking potshots OOC is ridiculous. IMO, it just shows that your opponent is too much of an idiot to think of something better IC to say. Going OOC is the sign of a dim-witted dumbass.
