It’s a hot and sunny day outside. The rays of sunshine beaming down on the streets of Sweetwater while kids run up and down playing all sorts of games. Beau sits on stool on the patio of his small childhood home, wearing a pair of Texas flag designed shorts, a white t-shirt, and a pair of flip flops, watching the kids play with each other. He pulls a bottle of beer from a nearby cooler and takes a sip. As soon as he begins to enjoy his drink, a white 1962 Cadillac De Ville suddenly pulls up, tires kicking up dirt as it comes to a stop. Beau sighs, recognizing that car anywhere as there's only one person that drives a car like that in Sweetwater. The driver's side door swings open and Levi Cassidy, Beau's father as well as manager steps out wearing his trademark white suit. He closes the door behind himself and makes his way to the house, arms spread wide.
"Beau!"
"Hey Pops..."
Beau grumbles, setting down his beer and making his way down the patio steps to meet his father halfway. He really didn't wanna talk about wrestling with his father as he never liked to do it and always tried to avoid it. Levi pulls Beau into a tight but quick hug, a bright smile making its way upon his face as he looks at his son.
"Just got back from helpin' your cousin out with his matches, how ya been? Haven't seen you in a while"
"Been good, hope Blake's doin' fine."
"No worries, he's good. Now, whatta 'bout you?"
Beau turns and heads back up the patio steps to pick up his beer, his father following behind him and grabbing a beer of his own.
"Whatta 'bout me?"
"Your match..."
"Oh that"
"A fellow Sweetwater Native and a woman at that."
"Face looks a little familiar but I don't think I remember her though, do you?"
Levi turns to face his son, beer in hand and takes a sip "Son...you had tons of friends I don't remember all the lil rascals that ran 'round here". They stood in silence for a few minutes, watching the kids toss a football around the street, piling on top of whoever had the ball and doing it all over again.
"She's apparently new to the business, should be no problem for you."
Beau simply nods, not wanting the talk about his upcoming match to go on for long. He focuses his attention back on the kids as they begin to play a game of freeze tag. He smiles, watching the smallest kid tag as many kids as he possibly could.
"You know what ya gotta do though right?"
"Um...no?" A look of confusion begins crossing Beau's face "Whatta are you talkin' 'bout?"
"I don't want you to take it easy on her just because she's a woman, ok? I need you to put her in her place and treat her like you treat any one of these boys your age." He points a finger across the street to a young man about the same age as Beau, the man ways and Levi waves back
Beau downs the last of his beer and tosses the bottle into a trashbag sitting on the patio. Growing up with sisters, he was always taught to look out for them, treat them with respect, he just couldn't imagine standing across the ring with a woman.
"Look" Levi places a hand onto his son's shoulder, lowering his voice. "I know this might be difficult for you, with what happened to Liz..." He pauses, taking a few moments "But, this is just wrestlin' nothin' more. When you get in that ring, I need you to look ahead, focus, alright?"
Beau looks at his father, a faint smile on his face "Yeah, I got it. I'll win, you ain't gotta worry."
"That's my boy." He gathers Beau into a hug again but this one lasting a few minutes. "Now let's go eat, I'm hungrier than a tic on a teddybear."
They both head on inside of the small house, arms around each other's shoulders. | |
